What is Land of Medicine Buddha?

Overview

Land of Medicine Buddha is a supporter of the sustainable business community. We have been a green certified business since 2008. We support a healthy body, mind and environment.  We have operated as nonprofit Buddhist retreat center on this land since the spring of 1991. Read more about our history.

Our unique facilities, beautiful land and warm, compassionate staff have garnered us the honor of being voted the Best Spiritual Retreat Center in Santa Cruz County by two independent newspapers two years running. We are open year round in order to offer Dharma teachings, meditation, and group or personal retreats.

With the motivation to promote Buddhist and universal spiritual values and ethics we open our facility to others.

Location & Land

We are located in Santa Cruz County, California. The Central Coast of California enjoys mild weather year round. We are only ten minutes from the Monterey Bay, a marine sanctuary. Miles of beaches and the towns of Capitola, Aptos, and Santa Cruz are all within a fifteen-minute drive.

Day Visits
We are open during daylight hours, for walking, meditating, and paying respect to the holy objects. If you are bringing a group of 6 people or more, please contact us first. No walking after dark.

Don't get stuck on the wrong side of the gate. If you are an overnight guest, be sure to keep the gate code with you. If you are a pedestrian, be sure to be off the land before the gate closes automatically at the end of the day. Enjoy your visit. And thank you for coming to Land of Medicine Buddha. Contact us for group visits.
Dogs

Dogs

Dogs must be on leash while on Land of Medicine Buddha Property. This includes all the trails, the meadow, the parking lot, driveways, and around the buildings. Please pick up after your dog. There is a poop station next to the electric gate as you enter the upper part of the land. There you can find bags and a bin in which to put full bags. Thank you.
Affiliation
We are affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), with Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche as the spiritual head of the organization. The center is locally managed and supported with its own non-profit corporation and board of directors. See more at fpmt.org...
